Castlemaine Branch – ANZ
As Branch Manager, I was responsible for driving ANZ’s key objectives as they relate to their implementation at the Castlemaine Branch. This involved a daily focus of ensuring that Castlemaine Branch customers are served to a consistently high standard. I was responsible for the overall performance of the branch to KPIs, a continual adjustment to a rapidly changing environment, and an unwavering focus on compliance to government and ANZ requirements and processes as they relate to the operations of the branch. A key part of this role was leadership within the branch. I was responsible for creating an environment in the branch that resulted in staff engagement, customer focus, and a productive and cooperative team environment. I was continually actively working with my staff to ensure their development, engagement, and ever-improving performance of their roles.
The Small Business Specialist role involved working with existing and new to bank small business customers to assist them with their banking needs. It was carried out with the perspective of having comprehensive discussions with customers via the A-Z Review process, with the aim of establishing a whole-of-wallet solution where ANZ was assisting the customers with both their stated, uncovered, and future banking needs. This role required strong collaboration and networking with fellow Business Bankers, Branch Managers, branch staff, and circles of influence (e.g., Mortgage Brokers).
Senior Personal Banker – Castlemaine Branch
This role involved being the second-in-charge of the Castlemaine Branch. From an individual perspective, this involved having the largest sales targets of anyone in the branch and being responsible for processing approximately 2/3 of the mortgage applications in the branch. From a team perspective, I helped the Branch Manager to drive performance and a customer-focused and cooperative culture within the branch and to ensure that everything was done in a timely and compliant manner, along with stepping into a Branch Manager capacity when the Branch Manager was absent.
Senior Personal Banker
The Senior Personal Banker role involved being responsible for the day-to-day running of the St Arnaud Branch, reporting to the Branch Manager who worked largely off-site. As such, I was responsible for addressing and processing the lending and general banking needs of customers, working with other staff to ensure that the branch met sales targets, acting in a supervisory and training capacity for staff at St Arnaud and the other connected branches, ensuring that the government and internal compliance requirements were met, and providing support to other branch staff. This was a “hands-on” role that involved managing both the daily operational needs of the branch and higher-level management and strategy.
In the 12-month secondment to the Branch Manager role, I was responsible for the management of three ANZ branches (St Arnaud, Wycheproof, and Wedderburn). I was responsible for ensuring that all the branches met both their sales and profitability targets and maintained adherence to both government and ANZ internal compliance requirements. This involved ensuring that all branches had staff who had the knowledge and skills to perform their roles and who were engaged in the strategic direction and focuses of ANZ.
As the Centre Manager of the St Arnaud Community Resource Centre, I was responsible for all course co-ordination, operations management, staff management, RTO compliance, financial processes and sales and marketing of the center, along with facilitator delivery of some courses. During my time in this role, I coordinated and ensured the implementation of a migration of the business accounting system from Quicken to MYOB, orchestrated the correction and streamlining of major business systems, recruited and worked with a computer consultant to undertake a major redesign of the business computer systems to ensure reliability, security and consistency, successful obtainment of grants and donations of computer equipment, overhauling and streamlining of the marketing strategy of the business, creation of a comprehensive business strategy three-year plan, and organizing and implementing the commencement of several additional courses and educational groups.
Accountant / Bookkeeper & Administrator
This was an autonomous role, reporting directly to the Managing Director. The role involved the total running of the accounting and administrative system and processes. Regular tasks included accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, invoicing, cash flow management, reconciliations, BAS preparation, superannuation management, Workcover management and the production and analysis of financial reports. The role also included regular contact with customers, with a strong emphasis on building and maintaining positive ongoing relationships. The role included the coordination of customer installations, first-level technical troubleshooting, and the reconciliation of supplier’s bills for an integrated telecommunications network.
Finance & Administration Manager
This role entailed having full responsibility for the finance and administration functions of the business. I was responsible for the supervision and direction of the Administration & Finance Department and its six staff members. This role was particularly challenging as a result of the bookkeeping, financial systems, administrative systems and staffing issues that were inherited from the previous Finance & Administration Manager. The role involved almost totally re-staffing the department and ensuring that the new staff had the training and direction that was needed in order to fulfill their job responsibilities. The role also involved attending to a two-year backlog of taxation, Workcover, and general accounting problems.
